Do you enjoy your feet sticking to your board in all manner of conditions, at all speeds and in all situations? Then you'll love Dark Matter griptape, from Rocket Longboards.
This is the Dark Matter V2 - now with even more grip. I thought the last one was pretty grippy already!
Not content with the offerings on the market, Rocket took it back to basics. The real difference here is that the grip is fabric-backed, rather than paper-backed as is found with most griptape.
That fabric backing means that:
The edges don't tear or flake off
This means ever - not when you're initially gripping your board and its a bit cold and brittle, and not when it takes an impact into a curb or wall later in its life. It's stronger and more flexible and you won't find yourself needing to re-grip half as often.
It's heat resistant
The fabric can't melt. Great news for anyone in a hot climate or that loves to footbrake at speed. There's nothing worse than laying down a solid footbrake then instantly melting your griptape with your hot sole. Not only is it dodgy as anything when you next try and unstick your foot, but it smooths off the grip in the process - but not with Dark Matter.
The grains are smaller and sharper
This is possible thanks to the fabric backing and practically speaking, is wonderful. Not only does it last longer than conventional coarse grip, but provides epic grip even in wet conditions. As much fun as I've had sliding along on my bum in the wet, it would have been even more fun if I'd have stayed on my board - and Dark Matter seriously helps with that.
Each pack contains 4 sheets. But please note, they are not all equal:
- 3x 32cm x 26cm rectangles (12.6" x 10.2")
- 1x 10cm x 26cm rectangle (4" x 10.2") with a laser cut Dark Matter logo. Bet that gave off some nice fumes!
Basically, if your board is less than 10.25" wide (it likely is!) then one pack will grip a board up to 106cm/41.7".
Designed with in mind but honestly a top product for anyone who simply wants to be able to trust their griptape in all conditions. And doesn't mind that classic sandpaper red colour.
